Middle East Technical University (METU) provides administrative procedures and information on maternity-related leave entitlements to support women employees during pregnancy, childbirth and the period following childbirth. The maternity leave framework sets out the procedures for requesting and recording leave before and after childbirth and explains the relevant documentation and administrative responsibilities.
Under the provisions described in the University's maternity leave information, female civil servants are entitled to eight weeks of maternity leave before childbirth and eight weeks after childbirth, for a total of 16 weeks. Subject to medical certification and the employee’s preference, eligible employees may work until three weeks before the expected date of childbirth, with the period worked before childbirth added to the postnatal leave period. Additional provisions address multiple pregnancies, premature birth and cases in which the expected delivery date is exceeded.
The policy information also specifies breastfeeding leave following maternity leave. Under the cited provisions, female civil servants are entitled to three hours of breastfeeding leave per day during the first six months after maternity leave and one and a half hours per day during the following six months. The employee may choose the timing and frequency of this daily leave in accordance with the applicable rules.
In addition, the framework provides for unpaid leave following maternity leave, upon request, and explains the related rights of employees whose spouses give birth. The document outlines the administrative process through which medical reports and leave requests are submitted to the employee’s unit and forwarded to the relevant personnel administration office.
These provisions establish formal arrangements intended to enable women employees to take maternity leave, care for their newborn children and return to work following childbirth. They provide evidence of maternity-related employment support at METU, subject to the applicable personnel regulations.
