Middle East Technical University (METU) establishes an institutional framework for promoting gender equality and preventing discrimination across the Rectorate, administrative units, academic units and other units operating under the METU name.

The University’s gender equality framework explicitly states that communication and institutional practices must respect human dignity and must not include discrimination based on gender, sexual orientation or gender identity. It also calls for the avoidance of stereotypes and prejudicial language and promotes awareness of gender equality throughout the University community.

The policy framework includes measures to raise awareness and promote inclusive institutional practices, including gender equality education, in-service training for administrative staff, information sessions and workshops for managers, academic events, research and publications, public awareness materials, and information published through the University’s websites.

By explicitly addressing discrimination based on gender identity, METU’s institutional framework provides a policy basis for opposing discrimination against transgender people and promoting a respectful and inclusive university environment. The policy applies across academic and administrative units and supports the principle that members of the University community should be treated with dignity and without discrimination based on gender identity.
