In 2025, METU assisted start-ups developing low-carbon technologies.
METU70 Venture Capital Investment Fund
Launched in 2025, the fund invests in start-ups founded by METU researchers, students and alumni, with energy among its priority sectors.

METU Technopolis and METU-GÜNAM
- METU Technopolis hosts more than 450 technology companies and runs pre-incubation, incubation and acceleration programmes. METU-GÜNAM gives solar-energy start-ups access to its laboratories and expertise.
- In 2025, METU-GÜNAM was an active stakeholder in TÜBİTAK's BiGG-LABSOUT programme, which supports researchers in turning laboratory results into start-ups: across two call rounds in 2025 it gave expert input to the technical and commercial evaluation of applications.
- In 2025, METU Technopolis acted as a pilot site for Voltfox, a carbon-accounting start-up that calculates electricity-related (Scope 2) emissions hour by hour. The proof of concept, run on the technopolis campus's electricity use, found that the traditional annual-average method over-reported emissions by about 27% (4,557 tCO₂e against 3,590 tCO₂e with hourly accounting), and that the technopolis's on-site solar power plant cut its location-based emissions by about 18% in May and June (Voltfox case study, 30 September 2025).
