In 2025, METU provided energy-efficiency and clean-energy services directly to industry through its research centres.
METU-GÜNAM (Centre for Solar Energy Research and Applications)
In 2025, METU-GÜNAM offered 74 defined testing and analysis services and provided 62 analysis and test services to more than 40 companies, mostly manufacturers and R&D centres. The most requested were solar-cell performance tests, cell electroluminescence analyses, glare analyses, panel maximum-power (Pmax) tests and panel defect tests. METU-GÜNAM also ran consultancy and R&D projects with Turkish solar manufacturers and energy companies, including Kalyon PV, CW Enerji, Smart Enerji, EnerjiSA and Arçelik; gave confidential consultancy on new solar-cell production investments; and started a design and analysis consultancy project on agrivoltaic (AgriPV) systems with EnerjiSA (METU-GÜNAM, 2025 Activity Report). In 2025 it also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Yangtze Institute of Solar Technology (China) on solar-cell efficiency and TOPCon technology.
Workshops for the solar industry in 2025 (METU-GÜNAM)
- Türkiye Photovoltaic Technologies Platform (TFTP) Workshop, 16 May 2025: coordinated by METU-GÜNAM, it brought together more than 130 participants from government, universities and industry. Platform partners, including TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center, Şişecam, Aselsan, Kalyon PV, Tescom UPS, itechsolar and Nanovatif, presented the solar technologies they developed with METU-GÜNAM under TÜBİTAK's 1004 Centre of Excellence programme. An afternoon session with the Turkish Energy, Nuclear and Mineral Research Agency (TENMAK) and the Ministry of Industry and Technology's HIT-30 programme heard from solar manufacturers CW Enerji, Elin Türkiye, Alfa Solar Enerji and Astronergy Solar on their R&D.
- PV Manufacturing Workshop: Industrial Solar Cell and Module Production in Türkiye, 30 October 2025: organised by METU-GÜNAM with Germany's Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE), the workshop discussed advanced cell and module technologies (TOPCon, HJT, perovskite/tandem), innovation in manufacturing processes and Türkiye's growing photovoltaic manufacturing capacity with leading industry representatives.
- Workshop on circularity and recycling in Türkiye's photovoltaic sector (policy framework, economic model and feasibility), reported on 4 November 2025: organised with TENMAK, the Ahiler Development Agency and the Solar Energy Industrialists and Industry Association (GÜNDER). METU-GÜNAM researchers presented solar-panel recycling technologies, a business model and economic assessment for panel recycling, and Horizon Europe recycling projects.
METU Center for Wind Energy (RÜZGEM / METUWind)
METUWind carries out wind-energy design, testing and certification work for industry.
Training for the energy sector
In March 2025, METU and SOCAR Türkiye held an Energy Conference with industry and government on the energy transition, and in December 2025 they launched a 32-hour Energy Transition and Strategic Development Certificate Programme.
Clean-energy research with industry partners: TRANSMIT (2024–2027)
METU CLIMATE and METU-GÜNAM are partners in TRANSMIT ('Semi-transparent micro-striped thin-film photovoltaics for energy-harvesting windows'), funded through TÜBİTAK's 1071 programme under the Clean Energy Transition Partnership Joint Call 2022 and coordinated by the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory, with Bay Zoltán Nonprofit Ltd. for Applied Research (Hungary), INSTM (Italy) and the University of Cyprus. Running from January 2024 to January 2027 with a METU budget of 1,656,798 TL, the project is developing semi-transparent solar cells that turn part of the incoming light into electricity, so that building windows and other glass surfaces can generate renewable energy while still working as windows. It gives priority to sustainable, material-efficient production methods so that the technology can be transferred to industry (METU CLIMATE, TRANSMIT project page; METU CLIMATE, 2025 Unit Activity Report).

Energy transition panel for manufacturers (27 May 2025)
METU CLIMATE's partnerships coordinator moderated 'Transformation in Energy Technologies for Sustainable Production', the 16th Green Agenda Talks of the Istanbul Chamber of Industry, held on 27 May 2025 at the Chamber's Odakule assembly hall. Speakers from the Turkish Energy, Nuclear and Mineral Research Agency (TENMAK), the SHURA Energy Transition Centre and the Development and Investment Bank of Türkiye discussed with manufacturers how energy efficiency, renewable energy and electrification can cut industry's emissions on the way to Türkiye's net-zero target.
