METU runs programmes for the local community to learn about energy efficiency and clean energy.

Solar PES: Solar Energy Powered Positive Energy Schools

Solar PES (Solar Energy Powered Positive Energy Schools) is coordinated by METU-GÜNAM in partnership with the Ankara Provincial Directorate of National Education, the Ankara Development Agency and METU Development Foundation Schools, and is funded by the European Union under IPA (grant programme EuropeAid/182996/ID/ACT/TR, administered by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change); its grant contracts were signed on 30 December 2025. The project supports schools in moving to positive energy so that they generate more energy than they use, and will run training on climate change, renewable energy, and sustainability for teachers and pupils to raise young people's environmental and renewable-energy awareness. One selected school will also receive a building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) system, making renewable energy a direct part of the learning environment.

Energy-saving training for Workforce Adaptation Programme participants

In 2025, METU gave 'Energy Efficiency and Saving Awareness Training' to participants in the Workforce Adaptation Programme, which it runs with the Turkish Employment Agency (İŞKUR). The participants are 60 previously unemployed people from Ankara who joined METU on 6 October 2025 for a programme lasting until June 2026, supporting the cleaning, maintenance, and repair of public areas. The training covered using energy resources more efficiently and raising awareness of energy saving (METU YITDB, 2025 Activity Report).

Public training

The METU Continuing Education Centre offers a 'Wind Energy and Wind Turbine Technologies' programme open to the public.
