Middle East Technical University (METU) strictly enforces transparent, gender-neutral, and objective compensation structures across all academic, administrative, and research staff categories. Guided by the university-wide Academic Freedom, Integrity, Inclusiveness and Equality Policy and explicitly codified in Section 5.2.3 (Remuneration Policy) of the Gender Equality Plan, METU guarantees equal pay for equal work, eliminates gender pay gaps, and enforces merit-based career progression.

1. Gender-Neutral Remuneration Policy & Statutory Scale Equity

  • Gender Equality Plan ( Remuneration Policy): METU explicitly commits that:

"Career development and remuneration processes are conducted objectively and independently of gender, in strict accordance with clearly defined core criteria."

  • Commitment to Non-Discrimination: METU’s Academic Freedom, Integrity, Inclusiveness and Equality Policy formally commits to "Ensuring equality in employment with regard to gender, cultural, and religious background."
  • Statutory Equal Pay Framework: As a public university bound by Higher Education Personnel Law No. 2914 and Civil Servants Law No. 657, salary structures are strictly tied to objective job titles, pay grades, educational qualifications, and seniority steps. Consequently, male and female staff holding identical titles and tenure levels receive identical base salaries, bonuses, and statutory benefits, systematically eliminating any arbitrary gender pay gap.
