In 2025, METU ran health and well-being programmes for the local community and for disadvantaged people

Local community

  • Republic Run, 29 October 2025: the METU Sports Directorate's traditional 'From 7 to 70, we run for the Republic' event, held at Devrim Stadium and across the campus, is the largest running event in Ankara. More than 10,000 participants from Ankara joined a children's run and a 5 km course for all ages, promoting physical activity and healthy living.
  • World Cancer Day, 4 February 2025: METU released a video podcast in which Prof. Dr. Sreeparna Banerjee (Department of Biological Sciences) explains early diagnosis, treatment advances and how individuals and communities can raise cancer awareness; it is freely available on METU's YouTube channel.

  • First aid: the METU Lifesaving and First Aid Society (OCİT), a student volunteer group, held 14 events with 1,550 participants in 2025.
  • 22 March 2025: the METU Child Mind Society (Çocuk Aklım Topluluğu) student volunteers visited the LÖSEV village for children with leukaemia and their families.

Disadvantaged people

  • 15 February 2025: the LODOS Student Society held a talk on childhood cancer to raise awareness of the needs of children with cancer and their families.

  • 'See the Talent' (LODOS Student Society): held every year since 2013 in the week of 21 March (World Down Syndrome Day), people with Down syndrome perform theatre, poetry and dance on campus to promote inclusion and well-being.
