13.3.5. Environmental education collaborate with NGO

In 2025, METU collaborated with non-governmental organisations on climate adaptation and environmental education.

Tür Say! with the Nature Conservation Centre Foundation (DKM)

In 2025, METU's Ecosystem Research and Implementation Centre (EKOSAM) and the NGO Nature Conservation Centre Foundation (Doğa Koruma Merkezi) ran Tür Say!, a citizen-science species count on the METU campus. Volunteers and experts record the species living on campus; the results, published in the Tür Say! METU 2025 report, provide a baseline for tracking how climate change affects local biodiversity and for planning adaptation.

Ponds for climate adaptation with the Nature-Based Solutions Association

On 8 April 2025, METU EKOSAM held the workshop 'Ponds as Nature-Based Solutions: Pond Creation, Restoration and Maintenance' at the National Botanical Garden with the Nature-Based Solutions Association (an NGO), BIOART and the Danish pond-restoration company AMPHI. EKOSAM presented the EU-funded PONDERFUL project on how ponds can help with climate adaptation and biodiversity, the association's president and BIOART's director presented nature-based solution projects, and AMPHI explained pond-restoration methods. On 9–10 April 2025 participants created ponds at the garden in hands-on sessions.
